Hurlers are Victorious -5/1/2003Hurlers are VictoriousCongratulations to the club's hurlers who were victorious this past weekendat the "All American Junior B level Championships" at Gaelic Park inChicago. Atlanta won the mini-tournament with two great performancesagainst Milwaukee hurling club and St. Louis hurlers. Notre Dame "thecollege" competed in the competition to make up four teams in total. Action photos of the tournament can be found at the following link.http://www.hurling.net/The first game was hard fought and could have easily gone either way asMilwaukee put up stiff resistance. The teams were evenly matched and thescore taking was "tit for tat" thru out the entire game. Neither teamdominated which made it quite an exciting game to watch. Tremendous efforts were made by many players who exceeded expectations, however one man made the difference for the Gaels. He was Stephen Morgan who scored from 65's and mentored the entire team to a higher level of play. The Final score wasAtlanta 3-6 Milwaukee 2-7.The final was against St. Louis. They came out with all guns firing andsurprised Atlanta with an early goal. Atlanta clawed its way back into thegame with some fine point taking in the first half. Then the goals camewhich sealed the game for Atlanta. Final Score was Atlanta 3-16 St. Louis 1-4It was quite difficult to name a man of the match as so many players did sowell. Neutral spectators took note of certain players such as Noel Ennis,Jim Morecraft and Kevin Devin. John Boyce and Brendan Crowley were "onfire". The man of the tournament is Stephen Morgan! The tournament was a huge success. The Chicago hurling elite were quiteimpressed with the standard and have given us an open invitation to GaelicPark. Thanks to Paul Browne for organizing it. Long may it continue!Kieran Claffey PRO Atlanta Clan Na nGael Posted By:Kieran Claffey
